They’ve both stayed incredibly tight-lipped… until now 👀

When rumors about Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s divorce swirled, they were further fueled by the fact that Keith changed the lyrics to a song during a performance.

Now, the country singer is clearing the air.

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman were married for almost 20 years and were regarded as a strong power couple. Which is why their recent divorce announcement has left thousands of people all over the world in complete shock.

The couple reportedly separated at the beginning of summer. But the actress filed for divorce officially on September 30.

Kidman filed in a Tennessee court, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for seeking divorce. According to people close to the couple, Kidman was reluctant to divorce.

One of the early signs of things being rocky in their marriage was when Keith Urban noticeably changed lyrics to a song during a performance. In his song, ‘The Fighter,’ Urban changed the lyrics from, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter,” to “When they’re tryna’ get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.”

In the lyric change, he was referring to his guitarist, Maggie Baugh. She shared the video to her Instagram account at the time, writing in the caption, “Did he just say that?”

The lyric change sparked backlash from fans who were upset that the singer would change the lyrics to a song that was apparently inspired by his wife.

However, Urban is now insisting that this is not something he has done for the first time and is urging people not to ‘stop reading stuff into’ his decision.

During his last stop of his High and Alive World Tour in Nashville, Urban addressed the crowd before he sang ‘You’ll Think Of Me.’

“I’ve been covering it like this for a long time,” he shared before he sang the lyrics as but I betcha’ think about me’ from ‘but you’ll think of me.’

PEOPLE magazine also reported that this was not the first time Urban changed the lyrics to a song.

In a heartwarming moment at the 2017 CMT Music Awards, Keith Urban surprised fans and his duet partner Carrie Underwood by changing the lyrics of their hit song “The Fighter.” Instead of singing the original line, he looked at her and sang, “Carrie Underwood, I’m gonna be your fighter!”

🎤 That spontaneous change wasn’t just for show — it was a powerful tribute to friendship, respect, and the deep bond shared between artists.

But did you know the story behind “The Fighter” is even more personal?

💬 In a 2017 interview, Keith Urban revealed that the song was inspired by a real conversation he had with his wife, Nicole Kidman, early in their relationship. He shared:

“It’s all from a conversation my wife and I had early on, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her.”

These lyrics aren’t just catchy — they’re deeply meaningful, drawn from real love, vulnerability, and commitment. It’s about being there for the one you love, through the highs and the lows.

✨ Whether it’s in front of thousands or in the quiet of home, Keith shows us what it means to truly fight for love.

💬 What do you think about Keith Urban’s touching lyric change? Was it a classy gesture, a sweet surprise, or something even deeper?
