After stepping in to save a young woman from possible danger during a late-night incident, four skateboarders from Calgary are receiving recognition for their bravery. The Calgary Police Service presented the young guys with a Chief’s Award for Bravery, a distinguished distinction.
The Event
In April 2015, four teenagers—Josh Hunter, Warren Churchill, Clay Stein, and Kyle Tenove—saw an aggressive man harassing a frightened woman in downtown Calgary. According to CBC, the group of friends saw the obviously drunk woman walking by herself while they were skating around the area.
When the skateboarders noticed a man trying to force her into a nearby alley, their concerns grew. As soon as they realized she was in danger, they took action.
By confronting the man, the teenagers established a secure separation between him and the woman. His attempts were thwarted by their presence, and the individual left the area. In order to keep the woman safe until the police could come to her aid, the skateboarders continued to take care of her.
Their bravery and fast thinking probably saved them from a possibly disastrous situation. Later, police officials commended the young men for acting without hesitation and exhibiting compassion and maturity well above their years.
Acknowledgment for Courage
In a formal ceremony held a year later, the Calgary Police Service presented the four friends with the Chief’s Award for Bravery. The honor is bestowed upon citizens who exhibit exceptional bravery and selflessness.
